No, for devices that don't need MDM, users can activate 
BlackBerry Dynamics
 apps on 
BlackBerry UEM
 using access keys. 
You can generate and send access keys automatically as part of onboarding, or at any time in the 
BlackBerry UEM
 console. Users can also generate access keys in 
BlackBerry UEM Self-Service
.
What does the 
BlackBerry UEM Client
 provide for devices that are activated with user privacy?
You don't need to use the 
BlackBerry UEM Client
 to activate devices with user privacy, but if you do you can take advantage of the following features:
  • A consistent, streamlined activation experience. Users need only their email address and an activation password. No access key is required.
  • No access key is required to activate 
    BlackBerry Dynamics
     apps.
  • iOS
     device users can access the work app catalog from a browser link in the 
    BlackBerry UEM Client
    .
  • Android
     device users can access the work app catalog in the 
    BlackBerry UEM Client
    .
  • You can locate devices (if location services is configured). Users must agree before the location of a device can be displayed in the management console or in 
    BlackBerry UEM Self-Service
Is the 
BlackBerry UEM Client
 required on devices with an MDM profile and 
BlackBerry Dynamics
 apps?
Yes, users must install the 
BlackBerry UEM Client
 to activate their devices with MDM. 
The exception is for 
iOS
 devices that are activated using 
Apple Configurator
 2 or with 
Apple
's Device Enrollment Program. In this case users need only their email address and an activation password. No access key is required to activate 
BlackBerry Dynamics
 apps. You can configure the work app catalog to open in 
BlackBerry Access
 using the 
BlackBerry Dynamics Launcher

What does the 
BlackBerry UEM Client
 provide for devices activated with MDM? 
The 
BlackBerry UEM Client
 provides the following features:
  • A consistent, streamlined activation experience. Users need only their email address and an activation password.
  • No access key is required to activate 
    BlackBerry Dynamics
     apps.
  • For 
    iOS
     devices, a customizable icon is provided on the home screen to access work apps.
  • For 
    Android
     devices, users can access the work app catalog in the 
    BlackBerry UEM Client
    .
  • You can locate devices (if location services is configured). Users must agree before the location of a device can be displayed in the management console or in 
    BlackBerry UEM Self-Service
  • The 
    BlackBerry UEM Client
     displays the controls, profiles, and policies that are assigned to the user.
Do users need to make the 
BlackBerry UEM Client
 the authentication delegate?
BlackBerry
 recommends that you configure the most commonly used app to be the primary authentication delegate. For many users this is 
BlackBerry Work
