Starting the Release 2.8.5, you can upgrade 

NDS

 plug-ins such as 

TAS

OPM

, or 

SMS

 without stopping service. You can also stop alerts for all application servers in the 

NDS

 farm. 

NDS

 signals to the plug-in on each application server to stop processing new tasks. And then, one by one, you can upgrade or perform maintenance on each application server.
